I had the best thing happen to me the other day. My friend Marty called me. Now, usually that will make your day any old time. But what she did next floored me.
She said, "Jennifer, I just wanted to let you know that in our women's class in church, someone said something very nice about you. Since you weren't there to hear it because you were helping the teenage girls in their class, I thought I should call you up and tell you what they said." (This is just one reason why I adore Marty-I mean, who else does that?!)
Then she told me that a woman shared a time my daughter and I had helped her and how it had really meant a lot to her. She ended with "Now, you make sure you tell your daughter how much she helped that lady."
So I did. I repeated what someone had repeated to me, about something that happened when I wasn't there.
I don't think so. But what impressed me the most was that Marty took the time to:
1. Notice I wasn't there.
2. Wanted to make sure I heard the kind words that had been said.
3. Call me that same day (I had turned my phone off, so...)
4. Called me AGAIN the next day to tell me something that would make my day.
I can't remember the last time I've done that. Heck, I don't know if I've EVER done that.
Thanks Marty, for showing me how to gossip the right way.
