Have you ever been on a road trip with kids, and you think you are literally either going to die or go crazy? I have. A lot. And while my kids have gotten better over the years, there are still those times...
Enter the wonderful world of audio books! They are interesting, distract everyone from their misery, are guilt free (because your kids aren't using devices) and as a bonus, they help keep you awake and aware while driving!
And Adventurers Wanted is the perfect road trip book for the entire family.
This book will remind you of "Lord of the Rings" quite a bit: a dwarf, and elf, a wizard, and a quest. Only this book is a lot easier for younger children to understand and has more modern language. But it's also interesting enough for the teenagers and me.
Adventurers Wanted by M.L. Forman is a fun, clean, adventurous book series that also has a great kid named Alex as the main character. He is humble and generous, even though he ends up becoming a pretty big deal in this fantasy world. Honor, duty and doing the right thing is always emphasized. There is no swearing, no inappropriate relationships and the violence is pretty tame.
(Random Confession: I don't enjoy exercising. But I need to. And the lady in my current exercise video series is super annoying. So I have been turning down the volume on the tv and have been listening to this on my phone instead as I exercise. It's made it pretty enjoyable!)
If you have kids who love fantasy books, but have read all of the more common clean ones, they will love this series. It is of course, available in book form, but when my good friend first told me about it, I looked on Audible, and the audio book was only $5. I thought I would risk it, and if it was terrible, it wouldn't be a huge loss. But actually, it ended up being a huge gain and is super fun. I love it, my kids love it, and I am less likely to go stark raving mad and commit homicide on our next road trip. ;)
Community Question: What other clean fantasy books do you recommend? What have your kids enjoyed?
Hi, I'm Jen! I adore chocolate, I'd rather read than clean my house, and I haven't seen my abs in I-don't-know-how-long. But I love my husband and kids to death and try to Raise The Good within myself and my family by making wise and uplifting media choices and having a deliberate family culture. You are probably doing the same thing. Let's share what works with each other!
