When it comes to family friendly, clean entertainment that's also suspenseful, funny and a little romantic, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye is at the top of the list! It's so great, I will admit to totally binge-watching it. And you should, too!
I'm not going to lie: I'm usually behind current trends, so this tv series may not be new to some of you. But when I found it, I felt like I hit the jackpot!
Everyone is mesmerized by the Olympics right now, I know my family is. But last night for the first time, I heard my 15 year old son complain about how much he hates the Olympics.
What?!! Who hates the Olympics?!!
"It's because I can never go to bed-- I want to stay up all night watching them!" (He's right. We are all sleep deprived!)
But that is the beauty of Olympics: they pull us in with the athletes' remarkable stories, physical prowess, victories and defeats. It's an emotional roller coaster that is much more inspiring than any tv drama.
And THAT, my friends is the secret to great teaching. Remember: You are your child's first teacher, no matter your family's educational situation. We and our children become passionate about something (anything!) when we have a relationship with it, when we get emotional about it. The Olympics offers us the perfect venue to teach our children casually in our living rooms about character, life challenges, emotional intelligence, science, politics, anatomy, biology, geography, weather, and any other number of subjects.
It doesn't have to be formal. It doesn't have to be long. In fact, it's probably best when it's not! You don't even have to know anything about the subject you want to talk about- you just need to be excited and have access to Google. :)
Here are some super simple ways to do this:

Many of us feel a let down after the holidays. Life can feel kind of . . . blah. It can be cold, dark and dreary. People are bored from being inside so much. But a week ago, my friend Heather and I (mostly Heather) did something super fun for our teenagers and their friends that everyone LOVED. We had such a great time, that my kids and I are planning on doing it again soon with a different group!
What is this magical thing you ask?
It's the Dating Diva's Murder Mystery "Red Carpet Revenge" Party Kit! Although The Dating Divas typically market to married couples, this game is clean and appropriate for teenagers as well. Plus, it sounded so fun, I KNEW our kids would LOVE it!
Hi, I'm Jen! I adore chocolate, I'd rather read than clean my house, and I haven't seen my abs in I-don't-know-how-long. But I love my husband and kids to death and try to Raise The Good within myself and my family by making wise and uplifting media choices and having a deliberate family culture. You are probably doing the same thing. Let's share what works with each other!
