Richard and Linda Eyre have been teaching parents how to teach their kids for decades. And they are extremely good at it! These New York Times best selling authors and parents of 9, have written over 50 books and their lectures on principle based parenting are in demand internationally. Additionally, they are one of the most warm, wise and welcoming couples I have ever met. But despite their remarkable success, Richard and Linda are amazingly understanding, down to earth and easy to relate to.
Many of you might be familiar with Joy School, the excellent DIY preschool program that they created. But slightly less well-known is Alexander's Amazing Adventures that was developed after the success of their best selling Teaching Your Children Values and parents asked for more help!
This great audio series has 14 separate stories. Each story focuses on a specific value:
-Honesty (Initial adventure – Listen to this one first)
-Loyalty and Dependability
-Unselfishness and Sensitivity
-Kindness and Friendliness
-Self-reliance and Potential
-Self-discipline and Moderation
-Fidelity and Chastity
-Justice and Mercy (Listen to this one last)
The stories all focus around a young boy named Alexander, and his real world dilemmas and difficulties. But what is exciting and unusual about Alexander, is that he is also the lost prince of a faraway world. He goes on adventures and quests in that land that correspond with his real life problems. These 20 minute stories are full of excitement, a little suspense, and fun songs that teach these character values really well. This resource is extremely well done. (The only thing I can think of that I'm not thrilled with, is the mom in the story and the turtle's stuttering voice.)
With each audio story (averaging $6), you also get a 20 min. parent audio guide from Richard and Linda for you! But wait . . . that's not all! (Can you hear my announcer voice?) :) They also include a family discussion guide (you know how big we are on those!) that also includes simple, fun activities for the whole family that reinforce each lesson. My younger kids love these. My 6 year old thinks that they are "exciting, cool and a tiny bit scary". He lays in bed listening for hours until I finally remember that he is still awake and turn off the stories so he can get some sleep! My big kids even think they are great, reluctantly admitting that "these are actually pretty good!" (high praise indeed, from a 13 year old!)
Each story is meant to be a family focus for a month, with discussions and activities reinforcing the teaching the whole time. This is a fabulous resource, and I hope you will give it a try! Hi, I'm Jen! I adore chocolate, I'd rather read than clean my house, and I haven't seen my abs in I-don't-know-how-long. But I love my husband and kids to death and try to Raise The Good within myself and my family by making wise and uplifting media choices and having a deliberate family culture. You are probably doing the same thing. Let's share what works with each other!
